Plastic container with printed labeling

Flexible labeling in cosmetics production

Direct printing instead of labels for a cosmetics manufacturer from southern Germany

customer

A medium-sized cosmetics manufacturer from southern Germany produces skin care products in small and medium-sized batches. The range includes creams, serums and special editions in glass flacons, plastic jars and folding boxes.

Batch numbers, best-before dates and internal production markings are required for all packaging - in particular to ensure traceability in accordance with the Cosmetics Regulation.

The challenge

The previous solution was based on pre-printed labels for labeling outer packaging and transport cartons.

Several problems arose in the process:

  • Different packaging formats required different label sizes
  • Small series and seasonal products made label orders inflexible
  • High organizational effort due to warehousing and reordering
  • Partial detachment of labels on smooth or slightly curved surfaces

The company was looking for a solution that could be used flexibly, could be integrated into existing processes and did not require additional label logistics.

The solution

The company opted for the jetStamp® 1025 sense, a mobile inkjet marking device for direct printing.

The device is now used to:

  • Batch numbers
  • Best before dates
  • Article codes
  • QR codes for internal processes

printed directly onto folding cartons, outer cartons or secondary packaging.

The print size of up to 85 × 52 mm makes it possible to print several pieces of information cleanly and legibly in one printing process.

Implementation in the process

The jetStamp® 1025 sense is used flexibly at different workstations:

  • Directly on the filling line for small batches
  • In the packaging area for special editions
  • In the warehouse for relabeling

Thanks to battery operation, no fixed installation is required.
The integrated display enables quick date or batch adjustments without the need for external systems.

Optional guide templates are used for exact positioning on folding boxes.

result

Since switching to direct printing, the cosmetics manufacturer has benefited from:

  • Elimination of label storage
  • More flexibility with product variants and special editions
  • Reduced use of materials
  • Fast adaptation of production data
  • Clean, discreet labeling without detracting from the packaging design

Mobile direct printing is an economical alternative to labeling, especially for small batch sizes and frequently changing product lines.

Conclusion

For cosmetics manufacturers, the jetStamp® 1025 sense offers a flexible solution for batch and best-before date marking on packaging.

Mobile use, independent of fixed stations - and ideal for dynamic production environments.
